ZenMate is a fairly well-known VPN network with headquarters in Germany. This network offers access to approximately 300 servers in 30 countries.
ZenMate – Settings
The following screenshot shows the window with the ZenMate application settings. By the way, you can see what my Desktop looks like. 🙂
The number of options available in the settings is not particularly large.
Application settings on Android look similarly.
The downside in both cases is the lack of choice of data transmission protocol.
ZenMate – Locations
The list of locations in ZenMate service covers 30 countries.
Examples of countries can be found in the following screenshot.
Most of the available servers support P2P networks.
ZenMate – Speed Tests – PC
Before performing particular tests, first I check the parameters of the direct connection.
The download speed was 54.3 Mb/s during the test, upload speed 25.4 Mb/s, ping 33 ms.
Download speed (13.1 Mb/s) accounts for 24.2% of the download speed of a direct connection (54.3 Mb/s).
The upload speed (4.4 Mb/s) is 17.3% of the speed of the direct connection (25.4 Mb/s).
Ping increased by (82-33) ms = 49 ms.
Download speed (34.5 Mb/s) is about 63.4% of the download speed of a direct connection (54.3 Mb/s).
The upload speed (4.5 Mb/s) is 17.8% of the direct connection speed (25.4 Mb/s).
Ping extended by (92 – 33) = 59 ms.
Before performing the last two tests, I check the speed of the direct connection again.
Download speed is 49.6 Mb/s, upload speed 25.4 Mb/s, ping 32 ms.
USA East Coast
The download speed (5.15 Mb/s) is 10.3% of the speed of the direct connection (49.6 Mb/s).
The upload speed (0.48 Mb/s) is only 1.9% of the direct connection upload speed (25.4 Mb/s).
Ping increased by (143 – 32) ms = 111 ms.
USA West Coast
The speeds given here are only a fraction of the speed of the direct connection. Such parameters are unlikely to allow free use of the network.
The average of the above four tests is 3.65 for all applications and 4.42 for text, photo and SD/HD video watching.
ZenMate – Speed Tests – mobile
The first step is, of course, the test of the speed of the direct connection.
The download speed in this case is 48.2 Mb/s, upload speed 19.3 Mb/s, ping 28 ms.
The download speed (17.2 Mb/s) is 35.6% of the download speed of a direct connection (48.2 Mb/s).
The upload speed (21.5 Mb/s) is approximately 100% of the direct connection upload speed.
Ping increased by (79 – 28) ms = 51 ms.
The download speed (37.9 Mb/s) is as much as 78.6% of the download speed of the direct connection (48.2 Mb/s).
The upload speed (17 Mb/s) is 88.2% of the speed of the direct connection (19.3 Mb/s).
Ping was extended by (106 – 28) ms = 78 ms.
Before performing these two tests, I check the parameters of the direct connection again.
Orange still does not disappoint. 🙂 According to the test results, the download is 54 Mb/s, upload 24.9 Mb/s, ping 28 ms.
USA – East Coast
This time, unfortunately, the connection failed.
The second attempt also did not work.
USA – West Coast
In case of the West Coast the situation is the same…
ZenMate offers a very convenient extension for the most popular web browsers.
If you use any of the VPN applications for your operating system, and in the meantime you connect to the VPN through an extension for your browser, the browser will use double encryption, and the IP address from the extension will be your public address. Other applications in the system will use only the connection available in the application for your system.
If you want to additionally use the network offering the DoubleVPN function and (using a browser extension) to create a TripleVPN connection, I recommend the Swiss VPN network called ProtonVPN in particular.
ZenMate – Pros & Cons
– very convenient application available for many platforms;
– P2P support;
– great extension for Opera, Chrome and Firefox.
– servers in 30 countries only;
– lack of choice of data transmission protocol;
– sometimes there is such a slowdown that it is difficult to load any page.
