PureVPN is a network that belongs to the best VPN services in the world. This network offers access to 300,000 addresses and up to 2000 servers. The number of available locations exceeds 180.
PureVPN – Settings
The number of options available in the PureVPN settings is very large.
The number of available protocols is large enough. In addition, there is the option of automatic protocol selection.
The Android application can also boast of a huge number of available options.
PureVPN – Locations
PureVPN is the second largest VPN network in the world in terms of the number of available locations. The first place is taken by HideMyAss! with the number of countries expanded to around 200. In case of PureVPN, it is about 170 cities in 141 countries around the world.
A large part of the servers allows the use P2P networks, which is additionally marked as you can see in the screenshot above. PureVPN is also offering access to many virtual servers.
A virtual server is a server whose displayed location is different than the physical location. For example, a server located in the United Kingdom can be seen as a server on the island of Barbados.
What are the benefits of that solution?
Significantly cheaper server maintenance costs (which translates into a lower price of the service) and better parameters such as ping, download speed and upload speed. A physical server located 10-15 thousand km from the user would be very slow. Thanks to the shorter distance, such connections are much faster.
PureVPN – speed tests – PC
Before testing performance of particular servers, I have checked the parameters of direct connection.
Download speed was 54.3 Mb/s in the test, upload speed 25.4 Mb/s, ping 33 ms.
The first country on my test list is Germany.
And here’s the speed test of this connection.
Download speed (25.6 Mbps) is 47.2% from 54.3 Mbps.
The upload speed (18.6 Mb/s) is 73.2% of the direct connection speed (25.4 Mb/s).
Ping was extended by 91 ms – 33 ms = 58 ms.
The second location to test is Great Britain.
The connection via London is very fast for this service.
42.7 Mb/s means 78.6% of the speed of the direct connection (54.3 Mb/s).
25.1 Mb/s means 98.8% of the direct connection speed (25.4 Mb/s).
Ping was extended by only 80 ms – 33 ms = 47 ms.
In case of the United States, I run two tests – one through the city on the east and the other on the west coast.
Before performing these two tests, first check the parameters of the direct connection.
Download speed is 55.3 Mb/s, upload speed 26.3 Mb/s, ping 33 ms.
It’s time for a connection through Ashburn.
This is a fairly fast connection considering location of the server (USA).
The download speed (4.8 Mb/s) is 8.6% of the download speed on the direct connection (55.3 Mb/s).
The upload speed (20.2 Mb/s) is as much as 76.6% of the direct connection (26.3 Mb/s).
Ping, however, extended by 174 ms – 33 ms = 141 ms.
This result is very good!
The download speed (11.6 Mb/s) is 20.9% of the download speed on the direct connection (55.3 Mb/s).
The upload speed (6.9 Mb/s) is 26.1% from 26.3 Mb/s.
Ping increased by 239 ms – 33 ms = 206 ms.
The average grade from the above four tests is 3.95 for all applications and 4.75 for text, photo and video streaming in SD and HD quality.
PureVPN – speed tests – mobile
Before performing further tests, first check the parameters of the direct connection.
Download speed is 56.3 Mb/s, upload speed 24.1 Mb/s, ping 28 ms.
The first test is a connection via Germany.
The download speed (3.2 Mb/s) is 5.7% of the download speed with direct connection (56.3 Mb/s).
The upload speed (15.4 Mb/s) is up to 63.9% of the upload speed on the direct connection (24.1 Mb/s).
Ping was extended by 91 ms – 28 ms = 63 ms.
The second country on the list of tests to be carried out is Great Britain.
These are quite good results for a connection through Great Britain.
Download speed (17.4 Mb/s) is 30.9% download speed of direct connection speed (56.3 Mb/s).
The upload speed (3.6 Mb/s) is 14.8% of the speed of the direct connection (24.1 Mb/s).
Ping extended by 109 ms – 28 ms = 81 ms.
Before performing the other two tests, I check the speed of the direct connection again.
Download speed was 54.5 Mb/s this time, upload speed 25.1 Mb/s, ping 33 ms.
In this case, download (12.8 Mb/s) is 23.5% of the download speed on the direct connection (54.5 Mb/s).
Upload (1.25 Mb/s) is 5% of the speed of the direct connection (25.1 Mb/s).
Ping increased by 233 ms – 33 ms = 200 ms.
7.1 Mbps is less than 13.1% from 54.5 Mbps.
The upload speed (0.65 Mb/s) is only 2.6% of the direct connection speed (25.1 Mb/s).
Ping was extended by 383 ms – 33 ms = 350 ms.
The average rating from four tests on Android is 3.65 for all applications and 4.67 for viewing text, photos and watching SD/HD video.
PureVPN is in my opinion the best VPN network in the world. In addition, it is one of the few services I regularly use. At the end of October 2018, I took advantage of the promotion and activated literally for a few dozen dollars a 3-year subscription!
