iPhone Xs, iPhone 9 - September 2018

iPhone Xs, iPhone 9 – September 2018

On September 12, 2018 Apple is going to unveil the newest models of ones of the most popular smartphones in the world. This event is going to take place in Steve Jobs Theater, Cupertino, and those smartphones will be the successors of last-year’s iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus.

What can we expect from the newest iPhones?

Let’s start with a design of those devices.

The design of the newest iPhones is going to be quite similar to iPhone X. We should expect 3 new models with different screen sizes and resolutions. The smallest (5.8-inch) device and the biggest (6.5-inch) one should be equipped with OLED screens. The cheapest, medium-size (6.1-inch) model is going to be equipped with LCD screen.

As it comes to screen resolutions, it should be 1,792 x 828 pixels for 6.1-inch device, 2,436 x 1,125 pixels for 5.8-inch device, and 2,688 x 1,242 for 6.5-inch.

The cheapest version of iPhone should be equipped with 3 GB of RAM. Two other models are expected to have 4 GB.

6.1-inch device will be offered with 64 GB and 256 GB of flash storage. 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models will be available with 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB of storage.

5.8-inch iPhone will be naturally a single-SIM device. Two bigger iPhones will be additionally available as a dual-SIM smartphone in some locations of the world.

Each of these models will be based on a new Apple A12 processor. Its performance should be 20%-30% higher compared to A11 Bionic which is known from iPhone 8 / 8 Plus and iPhone X. We can also expect up to 40% longer battery life.

New iPhones are going to be equipped with 12-megapixel camera. 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch devices should be dual-camera models. The cheapest (6.1-inch) iPhone will be a single camera device.

Quality of photos taken with new iPhones should be better compared to its’ predecessors.

The cheapest iPhone will have aluminum sides. The other two models will be unveiled with stainless steel frame.

All three models will be equipped with Face ID.

6.1-inch iPhone will have a 2,600-2,700 mAh battery, 5.8-inch OLED iPhone will have a 2,700-2,800 mAh battery, and the biggest model of iPhone released in 2018 will have a 3,300-3,400 mAh battery.

OLED devices are expected in 3 colours. An iPhone with an LCD screen should be available in 5 colours!

6.1-inch iPhone will be priced at 699 USD, 5.8-inch OLED will cost about 799 USD, and the biggest (6.5-inch) device should be available for about 999 USD.

There’s a chance that the newest iPhones will work with Apple Pencil just like an iPad, but it won’t probably happen this year.

The newest iPhones will be shipped in 70-75 mln units through the end of the year. This is the biggest number since iPhone 6 / 6 Plus were released.

This is how those units should be divided into 3 categories: 20% – smaller OLED iPhone (5.8-inch), 30% – bigger OLED (6.5-inch), 50% – 6.1-inch LCD device.

As it comes to naming, we can expect something similar like it was with iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 5/5s.

Probably 6.1-inch model will be called iPhone 9, 5.8-inch – iPhone Xs, and the model with 6.5-inch OLED display is expected to be called iPhone Xs Max.

We can also expect that the next generations of iPhone will be equipped with a microLED screen instead of an OLED/LCD.

We will see whether these rumors (except microLED screens) are hit or missed just before the middle of September.

I was very satisfied with my 2 previous iPhones so I will probably choose one of these 3 new models.

5.8 is large enough screen for me. My previous iPhone was 6s, so I will switch to iPhone XS with OLED 5.8-inch.
Anyway, I wonder how microLED screen might look like…
