One of the stages of creating any WordPress site is choosing the right template. This is the factor which determines the layout of your site. On the other hand, the layout influences on the number of readers and the time spent on site, which quite clearly translates into the amount of money earned.
What To Look For When Choosing A WordPress Theme
There are several factors to consider when choosing a theme:
– sales volume;
– average grade;
– update frequency – the more often the template is updated, the better;
– compatibility with particular web browsers;
– compatibility with the latest versions of the WordPress platform;
– my criteria also include compatibility with Elementor plugin.
In addition, the theme should be based on the so-called responsive design. This means that the page should automatically adapt to the displays on the devices on which it is viewed. Currently, millions of people around the world browse the Internet using smartphones and tablets.
The template should be also visually interesting, SEO-friendly and optimized for fast loading.
As for the theme used on this blog, initially it was Bridge. From the beginning of December 2018, my blog was based on the Newspaper theme. In September 2019, I switched to Astra theme which in my opinion is generally the best WordPress theme ever!
How To Install Any WordPress Theme
In order to install any WordPress theme, do the following:
1. Log into your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Appearance -> Themes from the menu on the left.
3. Click the Add New button at the top of the screen.
4. Now, there are two options.
If you’re going to install any premium plugin which you’ve purchased before, you should click the Upload Theme button and upload your zip file containing the template.
On the other hand, if you want to install any free plugin, you need to type its name into the field with Search themes… prompt.
5. In this step, you will just need to install the theme and activate it.
It is also worth knowing that paid WordPress themes are often accompanied by quite extensive and detailed documentation regarding their installation and configuration settings.
How To Update WordPress Theme
WordPress templates should be updated just like plugins and the WordPress core itself. In general, WordPress themes can be updated in two ways – automatically (using the button available in the WordPress administration panel) or manually (by replacing your theme files with their newer versions).
What’s important, the manual method does not carry the risk of resetting the template settings modified by the site administrator.
How To Update Premium WordPress Theme
If you have a premium WordPress theme, you can check its documentation and find out how to update that template.
As a general rule you can do the following steps:
2. Go to public_html/wp-content/themes directory.
3. Right-click on the white space and choose Upload files option from the menu.
(Alternatively, you can click the seventh from the left small icon in the bar located just below the Buy PRO button.)
4. When the zip file is uploaded, right-click it and choose Extract files from archive -> Here from the menu.
If you are asked whether you want to replace an existing folder with the new content, confirm that you do.
Now you can delete the zip file by right-clicking it and choosing Delete from the menu.
How To Update Free WordPress Theme
You can update free WordPress themes the same way you are updating WordPress plugins.
